About

Hi, I’m Emmy and I’ve been doing pottery for 2 years. I’ve always had a deep love and appreciation for ceramics but it wasn’t until I was introduced to The Great Pottery Throwdown that I realized it was a hobby I could pursue.
I took a couple of hand-building classes before joining a studio that gave me access to wheel throwing and I’ve been in love ever since.
Most of what I do are experiments in color (a fun challenge at cone 10 reduction), texture, and shape while still being functional pieces. I’m always learning more things and trying out new techniques!

The materials make a difference

A finished piece always starts with what clay I decide to use.
I’m currently throwing with Dave’s Porcelain which offers a bright array of colors and soft smooth finish.
But I also love throwing with Black Mountain and Death Valley which give deep undertone to glazes and speckles from the iron in the clay.
It’s always interesting to see the different ways clay and glazes react with one another.
